While trying to hold a few gatherings over the last few weeks in the garden area is become apparent that there is a lack of lighting there to use in the winter months. How do people feel about lighting being added to the area, and how might this be achieved. Ideas, pros, cons. Please discuss

Yes I think we should have lighting in the garden and an electricity supply so we could have music how about some outdoor heaters too? It would mean that we could all make far more use of the garden and gather together to socialise.Obviously , consideration would have to be given to the people who live closest to the garden so that they are not disturbed.Maybe something to bring up at the next residents meeting?

I think the biggest problem to take into account will be the impact on residents in the garden area if the equipment is misused. Would have to be discussed in detail, and with the resident in that area, esp those with children. But we could look at a timer switch which would turn the power off at say 10pm at the weekends for power outlets, and 11 for the lights. Lots to consider.

Heaters might be problem due to the amount of energy they use. But again something to cost and look at.

Just thinking about the cost side of things.

The cheaper option would be some solar powered lights around the garden. I know there's little light to power them and they don't give out much light but you will be surprised how much light they generate in small packs.

On the power side, I think I spotted some power sockets in the hall way (block B) leading towards the garden. It seems possible to maybe take a cut of the electricity supply there and reroute it towards the garden. Of course this would have to be done by a proper electrician.

Lighting in the garden sounds like a good idea - I have thought this myself in the past too. Unfortunately, it's begs the question; would anyone make much use of them at the moment, giving the nigh on arctic conditions? I can definitely see a use for that kind of thing in the winter, though...
